Types of D4 medicals we can provide:

HGV & PCV

HGV & PCV drivers require medicals throughout their career. On application, every 5 years on turning 45 and this rises to every year after 65.

Construction Workers

Many companies conduct annual medicals along with drug and alcohol testing. We can come to your site to conduct these medicals to minimise any disruption to your workforce.

Motor Home

A D4 medical is required to obtain a C1 license in order to drive a motor home. If you passed your driving test before 1997 you will automatically have a C1 license until the age of 70. It will then need to be renewed every 3 years.

Taxi Drivers

The government recommends that a taxi driver must meet the same standards as those of bus and lorry drivers.

Healthcare at Work

The HSE describes health surveillance as ‘putting in place systematic, regular and appropriate procedures to detect early signs of work-related ill health among employees exposed to certain health risks and acting on the results’.

For you as an employer this means completing regular health assessments on your workforce where risk has been identified. The assessments should be directly linked to the risks. For example, if there are noise hazards, then your employee should have regular auditory tests.

Yes. It is a legal requirement if you have employees who are exposed to specific workplace hazards, such as:

  • Noise
  • Vibration
  • Ionising radiation
  • Asbestos, lead or work in compressed air
  • Solvents, fumes, dust or other substances hazardous to health

Fitness for Work Assessments enable employers to fulfil their statutory requirements for workers in safety critical roles. These assessments are undertaken for a broad range of occupations, and in some industries are known as ‘safety critical medicals’.

Typically these assessments are completed on site at your workplace, and can be completed on an ad hoc basis or on routine visits for larger team.

Our Fitness for Work Assessments can include (but not limited to):

  • Lift truck medical
  • Driver medical
  • PCV / HGV medical
  • Confined space medical
  • Working at height
  • Working in hot / cold environments
  • Food handlers
  • Pregnancy assessment
  • Night Workers
  • Railway medical
  • Breathing apparatus medical
  • Ill Health Retirement.

Fitness for Work Assessments considers any health conditions that may impact on an individual’s ability to undertake tasks safely.

The assessments will be specific to the employee’s job role and may include tests such as blood pressure measurement, vision check, spirometry or audiogram.  This will determine if any adjustments and/or restrictions are required by the employer to ensure the employee’s safety.

A fitness report will be provided to the employer to detail the outcome of the assessment with advice and any recommendations.

There are specific roles that do have a statutory component, for example, PCV / HGV driving and Railway work. Most fitness for work assessments are for a specific work environment, within which some health conditions may put the employee and/or the safety of their colleagues at risk. These are undertaken by employers as ‘good practice’ and form an essential element of risk management.

Our physiotherapists/MSK Practitioners can support your people with any injuries or pain they have – whether it is a work related injury or not.

Any pain or discomfort an employee experiences during work, can be detrimental to their work performance and happiness in work.

We have the skills and expertise to do a full comprehensive assessment through a phone or video consultation, enabling us to give individuals the confidence and reassurance they need.

By feeling listened to and getting clear, professional advice and guidance, your employees can immediately begin to take proactive steps to manage the injury.

With musculoskeletal injuries such as back pain, early guidance from a physiotherapist will reduce the length and severity of the symptoms.

For this reason, our services enable you to offer rapid access to specialist care at an affordable price. The employee will get a full assessment, followed up with a professional information, advice & guidance on their injury, and a bespoke exercise rehabilitation programme.

If their injury requires further intervention, for example a follow up appointment or onward referral for face to face treatment scans and GP referrals, we will make these specific recommendations in the employer report.

Early access to professional advice and guidance is advised and beneficial.

We’re looking forward to working with you.

New Starter Assessments are used to assess an applicant for a specified work role after they have received their offer of employment.

As an employer, you need to know if there are any medical conditions that may impact on their ability to do their job safely and effectively.

In addition, you would want to know if the job role itself could have a negative impact on the applicant’s health, and whether there any reasonable adjustments required meeting legal obligations.

New Starter Assessments vary depending upon the role – but don’t worry; we can give you guidance as to what is required for the nature of the role you are recruiting for.

After the employer has made an offer of employment, OH One can complete a New Starter Assessment on your behalf. We will then provide you with a professional fitness to work report, advising you of the outcome and recommendations.

The assessment itself will vary depending upon the job role. For example, for a sedentary desk based job it can be a simple process that involves the completion of a questionnaire and, if required, a telephone assessment.

For job roles that may include physical activity and safety critical tasks, a questionnaire is used, and if required this is followed up with a telephone or face-to-face consultation.

Where possible we will complete these remotely to ensure a prompt and cost effective service can be offered. On site, face to face assessments will only be offered where we feel it is necessary, or at the employers request.

Can I do new starter assessments at recruitment stage?

Under the provisions of the Equality Act (2010), other than in specific circumstances, employers must not ask about the health of job applicants before a job offer is made.
