What is Podiatry?
Podiatry is a specialist area of healthcare dealing with the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of lower limb disorders. It is also sometimes called “chiropody”. If you aren’t familiar with the term, you might find it easier to think of our podiatrists as foot doctors.
Our team of expert podiatrists are trained specifically in the diagnosis and treatment of problems and injuries located in the foot and lower limbs – which can include the ankle too.

FAQs
Podiatrists are registered with their society and the HCPC; all are qualified to a minimum of Bachelors degree.
At your first appointment, our expert podiatrist will speak to you about the issues you have been experiencing and begin by assessing your condition.
Then a physical assessment will be taken, and you’ll be given a clinical diagnosis which will all be fully explained to you in straightforward language you can understand. After this, you can decide how to proceed with your treatment.
Generally speaking, if you are on your feet for the majority of the day, if you’re an athlete who uses their feet and relies on their stability, or if your feet feel painful or uncomfortable in any way, it’s likely that you will benefit from seeing one of our podiatrists.
We can offer a full assessment and diagnosis, and from there we can work on your individual healthcare plan together.

What is Swift?
Swift is a new technology, developed in the UK, which has been licensed for the general treatment of skin lesions in Podiatry and Dermatology. Swift uses microwave energy which is delivered through a special probe applied to the skin to treat the affected tissue.
Does it hurt?
It is not uncommon for patients to feel a sharp sensation, similar to an injection. Unlike most treatments for verruca, pain felt during the treatment quickly subsides, and only in rare cases is there any prolonged pain.
What can I do after treatment?
In some cases the treated area may feel sore but will not usually prevent you undertaking normal daily activities.
How many treatments will I need?
This is dependent on how you respond to treatment. In some cases, you may require a course of treatment (treatment regime is determined by your clinician and your Podiatrist will be able to discuss this with you).
Who can receive this treatment?
With a few exceptions, most people with skin lesions would be able to have this treatment. Swift is not recommended for use on diabetic patients, patients with implanted electronic devices or electrodes or for use close to metallic objects such as metal foot implants, jewellery etc.
All information read here is based on Patient Information Sheets created by trained, registered clinicians who are experienced with the product and treatment protocol. Before undergoing treatment, ensure your podiatrist or dermatologist is registered and has given you the full range of options available.
